The world’s oldest piece of figurative cave art was recently discovered in a limestone cave in Borneo. The scene, depicting what appears to be a type of ancient cattle could be more than 40,000 years old if scientific measurements are correct. WebThe presentation of the dates will be preceded by a short discussion of the experimental procedure used in our laboratory (pigment sampling, chemical treatment, etc). The ages obtained so far have shown that the art of cave painting appeared early in the Upper Palaeolithic period, much earlier than previously believed.
